the fence line
The fence line in our front yard is one of my favorite spots in our food forest garden. The ground is high enough above the water table that it doesn’t sit in water during the rainy season and the fence has served as an awesome trellis for passion vine, finger limes, and tomatoes.

At first, I mulched it heavily and planted a few plants.

Then I started collecting logs and created a border. Each fall, I rake the leaves that fall from the oak trees and dump them into the planters. Covering tree trunks with soil and mulch will cause them to rot, so I have been careful to leave some space.
