our science and nature projects

our chicks hatched!

Chickens have always been a huge part of our food forest. They eat our food scraps, compost the soil and eat bugs.

Chickens are also a decent amount of maintenance…so when I had to downsize my responsibilities, the chickens had to go. They were adopted by our neighbors, who spoiled them on their awesome farm.

Now, 2 years later, we’re ready to raise chickens again. Those same neighbors gifted us 14 fertilized chicken eggs, and a turkey egg.

We placed them in our incubator, waited patiently, then spent 3 days excitedly watching them hatch.

10 chicks hatched, and so did the turkey.

we always come across something interesting and educational in the yard. here are all the projects we’re working on!
